Ballarat Rugby Club has been in existence in various forms since 1976.

We currently play out of Doug Dean Reserve, fielding one Senior Men’s team in the Rugby Victoria Championship.

The Highlanders had a great 2025 season with the team making the semi finals. They are looking forward to an even better 2026 season as the club celebrate its 50th year. The club successfully won the premiership at this level in 2016.

Founded in 1976, the Ballarat Highlanders Rugby Union Football Club has been the beating heart of rugby in Ballarat for nearly half a century. From humble beginnings, the club has grown into a proud and resilient team that embodies the core values of rugby: respect, discipline, passion, and teamwork.

With our iconic red, white and black colours and a deep connection to the Ballarat community, the Highlanders have forged a reputation as a tough, welcoming, and hard-working club. Our men’s team competes in the Rugby Victoria competition, consistently representing the city with pride, passion, and Highlander spirit.

Over the years, we’ve hosted and developed hundreds of players — from first-timers discovering the sport to experienced veterans. We’ve also proudly contributed to the growth of rugby in Western Victoria, helping keep the game alive and thriving in our region.

As we approach our 50th anniversary in 2026, we’re not just marking a milestone — we’re celebrating generations of players, coaches, volunteers, and supporters who have made this club what it is today. Plans are underway for a special 50-year celebration in 2026, bringing past and present members together to honour our legacy and look ahead to an exciting future.
